Massive Meters for Holiday Challenge 2020
To the many athletes who helped make the 2020 Holiday Challenge the biggest one ever—we can’t thank you enough. In this, our 21st annual Holiday Challenge, we are humbled that our Concept2 community continues to grow, and for that, we are so grateful.
The Holiday Challenge runs from American Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve each year. Participants are encouraged to row, ski or ride 50k, 100k, or 200k and record their meters in the Concept2 Online Logbook. Across the range of all challenge levels, participation was up approximately 50% from last year. The same goes for the number of accumulated meters—we went from 2.4 billion meters in 2019 to an incredible 4.4 billion total meters!
As a result of your efforts on the RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg, we easily reached the initial $45,000 donation cap mid-way through the challenge. So we upped the challenge to a new cap of $70,000 and made it there, too—thanks to you! As a result, we are pleased to support these five not-for-profit organizations with the following donations:
- $11,696.06 The Pocock “A Most Beautiful Thing” Inclusion Fund
- $36,165.92 Doctors Without Borders
- $6,046.98 Direct Relief
- $16,091.04 Everyone Eats
Nell Shuttleworth Aiello of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation (GPRF) says, "We could not be more grateful for this incredible gift for the A Most Beautiful Thing Inclusion Fund. The challenge was motivating for our rowing and GPRF community, and we are so pleased to have been a part of this successful event."
Participants who completed 200k meters or more can expect to receive a Holiday Challenge pin prize sometime in late February or March, depending on your location.
We wish you good health and many meters in the new year and hope you’ll join us for more challenges in 2021!
